In the district of Ludwigsburg

In recent years, the proportion of bacteria that are insensitive (resistant) to antibiotics has risen significantly due to the uncritical use of antibiotics and deficits in hygiene management in medical facilities. This poses an increasing threat to patient safety and leads to prolonged hospital stays, non-response to treatment and, in the worst case, death. The medical associations speak of up to half a million nosocomial infections, i.e. infections acquired in connection with inpatient or outpatient treatment.

Methicillin-resistantStaphylococcusaureus( MRSA) is still the best-known pathogen causing nosocomial infections. In recent years, however, vancomycin-resistantenterococci, VRE and so-called multi-resistantgram-negativebacterial strains, MRGN (named after their staining behavior for microscopic visualization), have increasingly come into focus worldwide. These include various bacterial strains that frequently occur naturally in the intestine and are becoming a problem in the healthcare sector due to their multi-resistance.

Hospital infections are to be contained with a whole package of federal and state measures. The public health service plays a key coordinating role in this. In accordance with the requirements of the Baden-Württemberg Medical Hygiene Ordinance(MedHygVO), the MRE Network Baden-Württemberg/Ludwigsburg provides a forum for the various responsible parties. The tasks of the MRE network are

  • Exchange between the inpatient and outpatient healthcare facilities in the district.
  • Promote communication at the interfaces of patient care; ensure the flow of information through care transfer sheets with information on existing multi-resistance
  • Present and establish screening, sanitation and hygiene standards in accordance with the guidelines of the medical associations
  • Offer or arrange counseling services for special problem cases.
  • Initiate and support further training courses for medical and nursing staff
  • Provide patient information (also multilingual).
