Care insurance companies and outpatient services offer care courses for family caregivers. These courses provide useful basic knowledge for day-to-day care and demonstrate practical techniques (e.g. with regard to personal hygiene, dealing with people suffering from dementia and back-friendly care). The courses are free of charge for insured persons.
You can find further information and addresses of recognized offers in our brochure "Outpatient services" or from your care insurance fund.
Discussion groups and family groups are places to meet. Here, family caregivers can talk to others about their life situation and look for ways to deal with stress, for example. There is also the opportunity to obtain information on clinical pictures, the legal framework and other topics.
Information on discussion groups for family caregivers can be found in our brochures "For family caregivers".
Many family carers need more flexibility in terms of time during the phase in which they have to combine family, care and work. Legislation has created opportunities to better reconcile family, care and work. Family carers have the opportunity to reduce their working hours for a certain period of time or to take time off work completely. You can obtain further information from your care support center.
Carers who do not provide care on a professional basis can receive pension insurance contributions from the care insurance of the person in need of care. Under certain conditions, there are also entitlements to benefits from accident and unemployment insurance.
You can obtain further information from your care support center or your care insurance fund.
