Use of two-wheeled vehicles, corresponding to category A1, with driving license category B
The key number 196 entitles the holder to drive a motorcycle (also with sidecar) with an engine capacity of up to 125 cm³, an engine power of no more than 11 kW, where the ratio of power to weight does not exceed 0.1 kW/kg (this scope of entitlement is roughly equivalent to driving license category A1).
The key number 196 is a national key number. The resulting authorization is therefore only valid on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany (domestic territory).
Registration of the key number does not result in the acquisition of a category A1 driving license, which means that this authorization cannot be used, for example, to extend to category A2 in accordance with Section 15 (3) FeV.
The requirements for acquiring the key number 196:
- Minimum age 25 years
- At least five years in possession of category B
- Completion of and proof of a driver training course comprising nine teaching units of 90 minutes each (four theory units and five practical units).
Where and when can I apply for registration of the key number 196?
The application can be deposited in the mailbox of the
- Ludwigsburg driving license authority
- Besigheim branch office
- Vaihingen an der Enz branch office
can be posted. It is also possible to apply at the town hall of the municipality of residence (except for the city of Ludwigsburg).
A personal visit to the driving license authority is only possible after prior online appointment at the Ludwigsburg district office or the Besigheim and Vaihingen an der Enz branch offices.
The period between the completion of the driver training course and the registration of the key number 196 must not exceed one year.
