Correction of the vehicle documents

  • All modifications in accordance with § 21, § 19 Para. 2 of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) are subject to registration
  • Modifications according to § 19 Para. 3 StVZO, only required according to expert opinion

When changing residence within Germany, vehicle owners can decide whether they want to keep their previous license plate or have a new one assigned to them. However, this only applies if the vehicle was not previously taken out of service.

The obligation to report the change of residence to the registration authority remains in place.

A power of attorney is required if the application is not submitted by the holder himself but by a person authorized by him (a power of attorney by fax is sufficient). The authorized person's identity document is required.

The written power of attorney must state that the registration authority may inform the authorized representative of any outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration processes as well as any outstanding motor vehicle tax arrears or ancillary services for motor vehicle tax.

The registration can only take place after payment of the overdue fees, expenses and motor vehicle tax, ancillary services for motor vehicle tax.
