The history of mobile youth work in the Ludwigsburg district.

Mobile youth work was set up in 1991 following a decision by the district council. The starting point was a tense situation in public spaces, particularly due to youth groups with violent behavior. The district created two staff positions and the city of Ludwigsburg provided suitable premises.

In the years that followed, mobile youth work continued to develop. The work included street work, individual case help, group offers as well as leisure and project-related measures. The aim was always to support young people in difficult situations, de-escalate conflicts and promote social participation.

The target groups changed several times over the course of time. Work with right-wing extremist youths was followed by intensive support for multicultural youth groups, and later also for young refugees. Mobile youth work reacted flexibly to social developments and new problems.

Close and constructive cooperation with external institutions, including local authorities, the police, schools, youth welfare services in criminal proceedings, counseling centers and independent organizations, was an essential part of the work. The exchange always took place at a professional level and with a clear allocation of roles.

Projects for career guidance, the prevention of violence and addiction and the promotion of social skills were of particular importance. Sports, media and leisure activities served as important access points to young people.

Mobile youth work leaves behind a broadly networked field of activity and numerous positive impulses for municipal youth welfare in the district of Ludwigsburg. The focus in the final months of 2025 was on the responsible handover and placement of the young people in our care in other suitable services.
