Declaration of commitment

You can provide details for a declaration of commitment here.

Declarations of commitment (invitation):

Do you want to invite friends or relatives from abroad? A declaration of commitment is only required if the person invited cannot cover the living and travel expenses from their own assets or income. This will be checked by the responsible German consular mission when the visa application is submitted. The visa applicant only requires a declaration of commitment if this is requested. If there is no such requirement from the consular mission, you will only incur unnecessary costs and time for submitting a declaration of commitment.

This declaration of commitment is submitted to the immigration authority. The foreigners authority of the host's place of residence is responsible.

Your details will be transferred by the immigration office to an official declaration of commitment. This must then be signed by the host at the immigration office. This is necessary because we also notarize the signature at the same time.

With a declaration of commitment, the host undertakes to cover all costs incurred by the guest. This also includes medical expenses, for example.

To minimize the risk for the host: Please check whether the invited person has health insurance that covers benefits in the Federal Republic of Germany.

We require the following documents in order to be able to issue the declaration of sponsorship and for the responsible German consular mission to issue a visa:

  1. Details of the person for whom a declaration of commitment is being issued.
  2. Scope of liability for costs,
  3. VIS instruction,
  4. Certificate of income (only for self-employed persons)

Information on the Visa Information System (VIS):

The VIS is a system for the exchange of visa data between the Schengen states. It may be necessary for the responsible German consular mission to collect your personal data in the VIS and store it for a maximum of 5 years in order to check the visa application of the person(s) for whom you have submitted the declaration of commitment (the foreigners authority does not store the data directly when the declaration of commitment is submitted). You must give your consent to this. At the same time, you will be informed about the data storage and the information options. Further information can be found in the European Union information sheet on the VIS.
