The district fire chief is a full-time fire department officer in accordance with the Fire Service Act. The deputies are appointed as honorary civil servants for five years by the district administrator.
The district fire chief and his three honorary deputies support the commanders of the municipal fire departments with advice and assistance in the performance of their duties.
Tasks
- Supervision of the deployment, equipment and facilities, the level of training and performance as well as the operational readiness/performance of the municipal and plant fire departments in the Ludwigsburg district
- Operational duty for large-scale operations/special damage situations, if necessary taking over the operational command for major incidents
- Participation in disaster control and management of the district's command staff (technical operations management) as well as liaison with the administrative staff at the district office
- Processing all fire department matters for the Ludwigsburg district office/district
- Contact person for the district office/district and advisor to the head of the authorities/the district administrator and the district council in all fire department matters
- Advising municipalities/mayors, local councils and fire services/commanders on fire department matters, procurements/construction measures and conceptual fire department requirements and fire department structure planning
- Coordination and moderation of inter-municipal fire department cooperation for joint procurements/bundled tenders
- Training and further training of fire departments in the district (district training)
- Responsibility for approving grants from the state as part of the fire department funding program of the state of Baden-Württemberg for all 39 towns and municipalities belonging to the district
- Municipal and, if necessary, cross-district alarm and deployment planning
- Monitoring, participation and advice in the creation of a district-wide alarm and response plan
- Fire department technical contact for authorities and organizations (police, THW, rescue and medical services, disaster control)
- Representative of the district in the Ludwigsburg rescue service area committee and participation in its working groups
- Support for volunteer firefighters in the district of Ludwigsburg
- Comprehensive representation duties as district fire chief for the fire departments and the district, e.g. at anniversaries, vehicle handovers, equipment house inaugurations and special events (honors, etc.)
- Close cooperation with, and contact person for, the Ludwigsburg District Fire Brigade Association.
The duties of the district fire chief include preventive fire protection and fire department matters.
- Participation in fire prevention inspections by the building authorities as a representative of the district's fire departments
- Opinion of the fire department in the context of building permit procedures
- Assessing and approving fire department plans
- Organization and implementation of training events and service meetings for the fire departments
- Coordination and administrative processing of course registrations for the Baden-Württemberg State Fire Service School
- Participation in the management of funds and settlement of grants to district municipalities as grant recipients
- State honors for members of the fire department
