Handling substances hazardous to water
Substances hazardous to water, such as heating oil, petrol, solvents, heavy metals, liquid manure and silage seepage can damage water bodies (groundwater, surface water). Substances hazardous to water must therefore be handled in such a way that contamination of water bodies and the subsoil is avoided. Appropriate protective measures are required for facilities for the storage and handling of substances hazardous to water.
Inspection obligations
All underground installations and certain above-ground installations must be inspected by an expert. For information on the regulations for heating oil tank systems, please refer to our information sheet.
Obligation to notify
Anyone wishing to construct or significantly modify a system subject to mandatory inspection must notify the Ludwigsburg District Office in writing at least six weeks in advance. Please use the appropriate forms for this. A form for the operator and a form for the installation must always be completed.
Obligation to retrofit
ATTENTION!
Heating oil consumer installations (heating oil tanks) that are located in designated or provisionally secured flood areas on January 5, 2018 must be installed by the operators by no later than January 05, 2023 in accordance with the generally recognized rules of technology (Section 78 c (3) of the Federal Water Act).
The District Office therefore recommends that all operators have their existing heating oil consumer systems checked by a certified specialist company as soon as possible. If your system is regularly inspected by an expert, we recommend that you contact the expert first.
You can find out whether your system is located in a flood zone here.
The legally prescribed inspection dates and intervals by an expert can be found in the "Heating oil tank" information sheet.
