Embedding climate protection in businesses is a complex task. Workflows, processes, and structures must be reimagined, and technologies must be implemented. At the same time, there are many opportunities, such as cost savings through efficiency gains, greater independence from energy prices, and funding opportunities.
Together with the City of Ludwigsburg, the Ludwigsburg District aims to support businesses in this effort. The Energy & Climate Business Network is a project under the Future Strategy for the Ludwigsburg District as a Business Location and contributes to the initiative “Exchange and Networking Formats for Local SMEs.”

Electric mobility offers companies a wide range of opportunities to make their vehicle fleets more sustainable, efficient, and future-proof. However, the transition also presents challenges—from establishing the right charging infrastructure and selecting suitable vehicles to developing a cost-effective, long-term fleet strategy. This networking event provides practical insights into current developments, strategic approaches, and concrete action steps for companies.
The Energy & Climate Business Network was launched in 2019, initially as the Ludwigsburg Climate Alliance Business Network. Its goals are to foster networking, facilitate knowledge exchange, and provide information to businesses on the topic of climate protection. Companies from the Ludwigsburg district—regardless of industry or size—can participate in the meetings, with one company serving as a guest speaker and another as a facilitator at each session. Topics covered so far have included sustainable procurement, climate-friendly construction, and solar power for businesses. Participation is free of charge.

Get a glimpse into the most recent meetings of the Energy & Climate Business Network:
At the networking event held on July 28, 2026, on the W&W Campus in Kornwestheim, the W&W Group demonstrated how companies can lead the way in energy and sustainability.
After the W&W Group provided an overview of its sustainability initiatives and shared its practical experiences from day-to-day operations, participants were able to get a firsthand look at how these initiatives are implemented on-site during the subsequent campus tour. During the subsequent World Café, the participating companies exchanged their experiences and ideas.

- Presentations by the W&W Group on sustainability within the W&W Group, sustainable operations with a focus on energy and the Green Canteen, and the W&W Campus’s DGNB Platinum certification
- Guided tour of the W&W Campus, which opened in 2023

The event at the W&W Campus offered not only exciting insights into the topics of energy and sustainability but also valuable perspectives on their practical implementation in the workplace.

May 12, 2026 / Artificial Intelligence as a Lever for Climate Protection – Ludwigsburg District Office
On Tuesday, May 12, the kickoff event for the Energy & Climate Business Network took place in the large conference room at the Ludwigsburg District Office.
The focus was on AI and climate protection. In recent years, artificial intelligence has established itself as a powerful tool. Katharina Strecker from the Baden-Württemberg Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) made a compelling case: AI is not a topic for the future—it is already an effective tool today for improving energy efficiency and conserving resources. Her conclusion: Small AI models, when used strategically, can yield significant savings—even without massive IT budgets.
Climate fit BW
Klimafit BW is a funding programme of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector that offers companies of all sectors and sizes as well as other organizations a low-threshold introduction to the topic of climate protection and energy saving.
The district joined the project in 2021 and the 3rd round started in November 2024. The Ludwigsburg District Office is the project sponsor and link between the participating companies and the ministry.
Joint workshops are held to draw up a greenhouse gas balance sheet and derive emission reduction measures. Support is provided by expert environmental and energy consultants.
The project runs for approx. 9 months and ends with the award of the "Klimafit BW-Unternehmen" (Climate-Fit BW Company) certificate.

Closing event of the 2024/25 convoy on 4.11.2025
The final event of this year's convoy in the Klimafit BW project took place on November 4 at 5 p.m. in the district administration office (Hindenburgstr. 40) as part of the Spätlingsmarkt. After welcoming speeches by Head of Department Wolfgang Bechtle and Ministerial Director Dr. Michael Münter as well as a project review with a presentation of successful CO₂-saving measures, the certificates were awarded to the participating companies. There was also time for networking.

Energy consulting for companies
Many companies have unrecognized potential to save energy or use it more efficiently, for example through sophisticated concepts for space and process heating or waste heat.
The Ludwigsburg District Energy Agency LEA offers initial energy consultations for companies, which are financed by the Ludwigsburg district.
In the initial energy consultation, you receive a rough assessment of your company's current energy situation. Based on this, the LEA team will show you possible steps you can take to use energy more efficiently in your company and make sensible use of available subsidies.

Network: Climate initiative for energy-efficient management (KEW)
The LEA supports your company on the path to greater energy efficiency - for sustainable business. From 01.08.2025 to 31.07.2028, the LEA, in cooperation with the Initiative for Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Networks (IEEKN), is launching the Climate Initiative for Energy Efficient Business (KEW) network for companies in the district of Ludwigsburg and beyond.
Interested parties can apply now and benefit from the regional expertise of the LEA. Participating companies attend network meetings three times a year, receive individual advice and valuable technical contributions. Become a member now and save energy costs in the long term.
