Tradesperson Parking Permit in Ludwigsburg County
The district-wide tradespeople’s parking permit includes a number of exemptions that make it easier for businesses to park their service, installation, or tool vans close to customers when parking conditions are difficult. As a joint initiative of Ludwigsburg County and its municipalities, it is recognized in all 39 cities and towns and is valid for 12 months from the date of issuance. This eliminates the need to apply for individual exemptions multiple times a year. The permit was developed as part of the Ludwigsburg District’s future strategy.
Launch of the program: Applications for the countywide tradespeople’s parking permit can be submitted starting September 1, 2026.
Exemptions for the Tradesperson Parking Permit:
The district-wide tradesman parking permit allows tradespeople to park
- at parking meters and in areas with parking ticket machines (public streets) without paying parking fees
- in public parking lots without regard to the maximum parking duration (except in short-term parking zones under 30 minutes)
- in areas with restricted stopping
- in no-stopping zones, even outside the marked parking areas
- in areas with resident parking
- in traffic-calmed areas, even outside the designated areas
provided that no other suitable parking option is available within a reasonable distance. The exemption permit applies to the vehicles listed on the permit for the duration of the on-site assignment, exclusively on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Eligible Businesses and Vehicles:
Businesses engaged in skilled trades are eligible to apply. The tradesman’s parking permit may be used exclusively for service, workshop, or installation vehicles (with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 7.5 metric tons) that must be parked close to the work site in order to perform the work.
Up to three of the business’s vehicles may be registered on each permit. The visible portion of the permit may be displayed in any one of these three vehicles. Businesses with greater needs may apply for multiple permits. The fee must be paid for each permit (see below).
Application:
The tradesperson parking permit is issued by the municipal and county transportation authorities. The application is submitted using the application form, which must be sent via email or mail to the responsible transportation authority.
The following documents must be submitted with the application form:
- A copy of the tradesman’s license, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) membership certificate, or the business registration
- A copy of the vehicle registration certificate (Part I)
- Photos of the vehicle(s) with the trunk open and the license plates visible.
Businesses based in Ludwigsburg County must apply for the tradesman’s parking permit at the road traffic authority responsible for their place of business or the relevant branch office. Businesses from neighboring counties must apply for the permit at the location of their first assignment within Ludwigsburg County.

Fees and Terms of Use:
The fee for a 12-month tradesperson parking permit is 200 EUR. This fee also applies to each additional permit issued to a business. The fee for adding or changing a license plate number on an already issued permit is 15 EUR.
The tradesman parking permit does not override the traffic regulations. Parked vehicles must not endanger or obstruct other road users. A minimum clear lane width of 3.05 m must be maintained at all times. The terms of use stated in the approval letter apply.
