People need care. And that's why the care sector needs people who can contribute to helping people in need of care cope with their everyday lives through qualified training.

Nursing has a future - whether as the first training course after leaving school or as a way of re-entering working life. Because there are more and more people with care needs, the care professions are one of the service industries of the future.

The district is working with the nursing schools, the providers of practical training and other stakeholders to develop concepts for the sustainable care of the population.

Nursing specialist

Duration of training:
3 years

Entry requirements:

  1. Secondary school certificate
  2. Extended lower secondary school leaving certificate
  3. Secondary school certificate and at least two years of vocational training
  4. Secondary school certificate plus training in nursing assistance or geriatric nursing assistance

Training is also possible on a part-time basis. If you are interested, please ask the training provider about the possible division of time.

Foreign applicants who did not obtain their school-leaving certificate at a German school must have their school-leaving certificate recognized by the regional council.
Sufficient German language skills are also required.

Application:
Nursing training takes place at a practical training provider in cooperation with a nursing school. The following areas are possible:

  • outpatient care services
  • inpatient care facilities
  • hospitals

Nursing assistant in the field of geriatric care or healthcare and nursing

With the start of generalist nursing training, only specialist training was initially reformed. Nursing assistant training continues to be completed in the two areas of geriatric care and health and nursing care.

From 01.01.2028 the new nursing assistant training program will begin in Baden-Württemberg, merging the previous training programs for geriatric nursing assistants and healthcare and nursing assistants.

Duration of training:
1 year

For non-native speakers - duration of training:

2 years (additional acquisition of B2 language qualification)

In individual cases, admission can also be granted without a secondary school leaving certificate if the school comes to a positive aptitude prognosis.

Admission requirements:

  1. Secondary school leaving certificate or proof of an equivalent level of education
  2. Foreign applicants who did not obtain their school-leaving certificate at a German school must have sufficient German language skills.

Training is also possible on a part-time basis. If you are interested, please ask the training provider about the possible division of time.

Career prospects:

Admission to the 2nd year of the 3-year generalist nursing training course is possible after consultation.

The Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) offers:

  • an opportunity to develop your personality
  • professional orientation
  • getting to know social occupational fields

The FSJ usually lasts 12 months. The minimum duration is 6 months, the maximum is 18 months. The FSJ can also be split between different institutions, and placements abroad are also possible.
