27.02.26 | Equal Pay Day

In 2026, Equal Pay Day in Germany will be held under the motto "equal pay every day!" - "Equal pay every day!"

This day of action makes it clear that 2026 is Equal Pay Day on February 27. This means that women will work for free for 57 days from January 1.

The gap between the average gross hourly wages of women and men in Germany (known as the gender pay gap) is currently 16%. The situation is even worse in Baden-Württemberg: Here, the gender pay gap is still at 20%. In the public sector too, the gender pay gap is still at 4% across Germany. The main reasons for the pay inequality are that women often work in sectors and occupations with low pay levels and more frequently work part-time. In most couple households in Germany, men continue to contribute a larger share of income than women. Only in one in ten couple households (10.3%, as of 2025) did the woman have a higher net income than her spouse or partner.

Between women and men with the same "labor market-relevant characteristics", i.e. the same education and similar professional position, there is also still a pay gap of 6% (so-called adjusted gender pay gap) at the expense of women.

The motto of International Women's Day 2026 is "Rights. Justice. Act. For ALL women and girls" and calls for action to remove all obstacles to equality before the law. In October 2025, Professor Dr. Wolff published her book "WIE VIELE NOCH? Deutschlands gebilligte Femizide" published by Kohlhammer. The underlying mechanisms of violence are examined from a wide variety of perspectives in order to illustrate the structural anchoring that is deeply rooted in our society. In a combination of lecture and reading, Dr. Wolff will reveal the connections, structures and effects of violence developed over six years of research, as well as solutions that have already been established in other countries. It is up to all of us to work efficiently against the increasing spiral of violence - in this respect, a lively exchange on site is very welcome, and books can be signed on request.

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Kristina Wolff, activist, author, founder of the Femicide Observation Center Germany F.O.C.G.

The event is aimed at anyone who is involved in prostitution, human trafficking, gender equality, social work, prevention, administration, counseling, science or politics in a professional or voluntary capacity and at people who want to understand more precisely what the current reality of prostitution means for women, men and our society.

With experts from practice, academia and those who have been affected themselves, the program brings together voices that are rarely heard together.
We want to create space for well-founded insights, real conversations, common questions and the perspective: What responsibility does each and every one of us bear and what options do we have?

From stupid sayings and stupid pick-up lines to sexualized violence in public and digital space

Every year, the University Day focuses on one aspect of gender-specific violence. This year, the focus is on everyday spaces in which women experience gender-based violence, but also on the question of what to do afterwards - whether in the case of investigative proceedings or in working with those affected.

With the Ludwigsburg University Day on the implementation of the Istanbul Convention, the five local universities and the equal opportunities officers of the city and district are drawing attention to various aspects of the Istanbul Convention. Experts from theory and practice will shed light on the topic and build bridges between their disciplines.

In cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Ludwigsburg, Fikri Anıl Altıntaş has been invited to give a lecture entitled "Together for more equality - From masculinity to allyship".

As violence against women is a widespread social problem that is closely linked to ideas of masculinity, the speaker would like to address this topic on International Men's Day. Learned patterns of behavior and expectations push men to exercise dominance and control. The lecture will also shed light on why racialized men in particular are affected by additional prejudices.

After the lecture, there will be time for discussion over drinks. All interested parties are cordially invited.

50 million people (according to current estimates) are victims of human trafficking worldwide. Modern slavery means exploitation, lack of freedom and violation of human dignity. In Germany, it is mainly women and children who are sexually exploited in prostitution. For most of those affected, it is impossible to free themselves from the power structures and dependencies on their own. For this reason, this rally with texts, music and poetry has been organized on Ludwigsburg's market square.

This will be followed by a silent march against human trafficking and (forced) prostitutionin black clothing.

The dignity of women is inviolable.
Respecting and protecting it is the duty of all state authority. It is an inviolable and inalienable human right.

Gender-specific violence is omnipresent and still anchored in our social structures. One in three women in Germany is affected by physical and/or sexual violence. 25% of women in Germany experience physical and/or sexual violence in their relationship. Every third day, a man kills his (ex-)partner.

Based on the UN campaign "Orange the World", the district of Ludwigsburg wants to work with all committed communities and organizations (companies, authorities, educational institutions (colleges), etc.) in the district to set up ORANGE COLOURED BANKS. They invite conversation and draw attention to the topic as a visible sign. All benches receive a plaque from the district with information about the help system. On request, we can organize a local campaign on the topic for you. Existing benches can also be painted orange and customized. There is also an accompanying program, offers and information on the topic. Projects from schools, youth centers etc. are explicitly welcome.
