Travel trade

Security & Order

A person operates an itinerant business if, on a commercial basis (without a prior order from a customer), outside of their commercial establishment, they:

  • offers goods for sale, solicits orders, or purchases goods;
  • offers services or solicits orders for services, or engages in entertainment activities as a traveling showman or in a manner typical of a traveling showman (e.g., vendors at markets, traveling showmen, operators of mobile food trucks)

In contrast to a stationary business, the itinerant trade always requires a permit, known as an “itinerant trade card.” Applications for the itinerant trade card may be submitted for a fixed term of one year or for an indefinite period.

The completed application must be submitted to the municipality of residence. If the district office has jurisdiction, the municipalities forward the applications to the district office for further processing. The required documents may be submitted at a later date.

Required Documents

  • Identity card or passport
  • Certificate of Good Conduct (not older than three months), Document Type 0, sent directly to the authority
  • Extract from the Central Trade Register (not older than three months), document type 9, sent directly to the authority
  • Certificate regarding tax matters from the tax office (not older than three months)
  • Instruction pursuant to the Infection Protection Act (when handling food)
