Besigheim

Half-timbered houses, wine, and quality of life: Besigheim

Historic Old Town

Besigheim captivates visitors with one of the region’s most beautiful and exceptionally well-preserved medieval half-timbered old towns. Colorful half-timbered houses, narrow alleys, cozy cafés, excellent dining, and small, owner-operated shops invite you to explore and enjoy.

Wine & Steep Slopes

The steep vineyards surrounding Besigheim define the town’s skyline and make the landscape unique. Awards such as “Germany’s Most Beautiful Wine Town” underscore the importance of viticulture. The view of the vineyard landscape from the Waldhornturm, the Weinkanzel, or the observation pavilion at the Himmelsleiter is particularly impressive.

Wine is as much a part of Besigheim as the half-timbered houses are to the old town. Wine tastings, guided wine tours, and covered wagon rides through the vineyards offer fascinating insights into the region’s wine culture. A special highlight is the Besigheim Wine Festival, held every two years.

Neckar & Enz

Located at the confluence of the Neckar and Enz rivers, Besigheim combines a historic townscape with a charming river landscape. The riverbanks offer space for relaxation, walks, and nature experiences right at the gates of the Old Town.

Hiking & Biking

Whether along the rivers or through the vineyards—there are plenty of opportunities around Besigheim to explore the countryside on foot or by bike. Besigheim lies along the Neckar Valley Bike Trail and is an ideal starting point for tours through the surrounding wine country. Particularly popular are the panoramic trails with their sweeping views, as well as tours toward the Hessigheim Rock Gardens.

Leisure & Recreation

Besigheim offers a wide range of recreational and leisure activities for all generations. The Enzpark, the Mineral-Park outdoor swimming pool, numerous sports and club activities, and a vibrant cultural and events program all contribute to the town’s high quality of life.

A Business Hub with a Future

With a population of around 12,000, Besigheim is a diverse business hub characterized by small and medium-sized enterprises in industry, manufacturing, skilled trades, retail, construction, and services. The further development of the business community is a key priority for the town’s future. By preserving and developing commercial spaces, pursuing forward-looking urban development, and promoting digitalization, energy efficiency, and sustainability, Besigheim creates attractive conditions for businesses and jobs.

Special Features

What makes Besigheim special is its unique blend of a historic half-timbered old town, steep vineyards, and its location between the Neckar and Enz rivers. The combination of culture, nature, wine, and enjoyment gives the town its distinctive character and makes it an attractive destination for day trips and vacations in the region.
