- Identity card or passport of the applicant (a photocopy is sufficient). For companies: Business registration and extract from the commercial register
- Insurance confirmation (eVB number consisting of 7 characters)
- Vehicle data (vehicle class and type of bodywork, vehicle identification number)
- The vehicle must correspond to an approved type or an individual approval must have been granted.
- Valid main inspection (HU) and - if prescribed - a valid safety inspection (SP)
Necessary documents for a power of attorney
A power of attorney is required if the application is not submitted by the holder himself but by a person authorized by him (a power of attorney by fax is sufficient). Identification document of the authorized person is required
General information
Use and duration:
If a vehicle is not registered, it may be put into operation with a short-term license plate for a maximum of 6 days from the date of allocation for test drives and transfer journeys in the federal territory subject to the restrictions entered in the vehicle registration document.
A vehicle to which a seasonal license plate has been allocated may be put into operation outside the operating period with a short-term license plate if the seasonal license plate is not used at the same time.
Vehicle does not have a valid operating license:
Then only journeys with short-term license plates that are directly related to obtaining a new operating permit may be carried out in the district of the licensing authority responsible for the location of the vehicle or an adjacent district and back.
The vehicle does not have a valid main inspection (HU) or safety inspection (SP):
Then only journeys with short-term license plates to an inspection station in the district of the registration authority responsible for the vehicle's location or an adjacent district and back may be carried out.
If defects are found on the vehicle during the main inspection (HU) and safety inspection (SI):
Then journeys with short-term license plates may also be carried out for the immediate repair of identified defects at a suitable facility in the district of the licensing authority responsible for the location of the vehicle or an adjacent district and back.
However, these exceptions do not apply to vehicles that have been classified as unsafe to drive.
