Groundwater is the water beneath the earth's surface. Around 80 % of drinking water in Germany is obtained from groundwater resources. It is therefore one of the most important foundations of life and is comprehensively protected by legislation, for example through designated water protection areas. Baden-Württemberg is also rich in natural groundwater resources.
