Projects 2021

The winegrowers' shelters are an indispensable part of viticulture. In the past, they were used to store equipment and as a shelter, e.g. for the winegrowers. Some of the winegrowers' shelters are "functionless" and are falling into disrepair. The city of Freiberg's project is precisely about preserving these historic winegrowers' huts as evidence of the vineyard landscape and original viticulture.

The city of Freiberg is restoring a winegrowers' shelter above the Neckar.

Applicant: City of Freiberg

Contact: Mr. Müller, Mr. Eggert

The town of Bönnigheim has refurbished a wine shed in the town. The shed serves as storage for the volunteer-run vinotheque. The vinotheque presents wines from all the local vineyards and the winery. The area around the Remise is the starting and finishing point for numerous guided tours and also a venue for tastings and events. More outdoor events will be held there. The appropriate equipment is to be stored in the coach house for this purpose.

As the largest steep-slope municipality in Württemberg, the town of Lauffen a.N. is committed to preserving the terraced steep slopes. A flagship project within the framework of the ILEK process would be the touristic use of the spectacular Lauffen steep slopes above the Zaber river. The aim should be not only to lead guests past the steep slopes at the top or bottom, but to find ways to bring them directly into the middle of the steep slopes and through the steep slopes. A feasibility study has been commissioned from an experienced engineering firm to determine what conditions need to be created for this and what difficulties and dangers need to be overcome and at what estimated cost.

Applicant: City of Lauffen am Neckar

Contact: Ms. Keßler

The project aims to make young people aware of the different flavors of wine. The Geochache trail can be used as a company outing destination for companies of all kinds. This serves as a team-building exercise and also attracts new target groups to the cultivation of steep slopes. The enjoyment of the respective wines is combined with a beautiful hike through the vineyards of Gemmrigheim. There is a cache on each of the plots, and the wine that is grown is always deposited. In this way, the participants in the wine cache will also receive information.

Applicant and contact person: Reimund Alber

Three winegrowers from Lauffen am Neckar jointly purchase a bending and unscrewing tool (incl. hydraulic press) for the self-assembly of monorack tracks. With this project, further terraced areas can be developed with the monorack track system and managed more effectively.

Applicants: Elmar Hille, Steffen Maile, Albrecht Stricker

Art is intended to draw attention to the special features of steep-slope wines and the landscape. The protection of nature, the dry stone wall ecosystem and the sensitive vineyard landscapes should become visible through art. The aim here is to attract new interest groups to steep slope viticulture and to achieve a higher price for steep slope wines.

The first stage of the competition (2021) is funded by the regional budget.

Applicant: Lauffener Weingärtner eG

An existing vineyard cottage and the terrace in front of it are to be made accessible for wine tourism with a staircase and railing. In future, the area will be used for individual wine tastings and as a stopover during covered wagon tours. By tasting the wines at this special location in the middle of the steep slopes, the appreciation of this historic vineyard site is to be increased, thereby stimulating interest in buying these wines. This should lead to an economic perspective for the steep slopes, which are difficult to cultivate, and ensure their preservation.

Applicant and contact person: Christian Seybold

The Gemmrigheimer Weinsichten are benches in the steep slopes that invite hikers, walkers, excursionists and friends of the steep slopes to linger. Together with colorful wooden posts in the wine summer design and with bushes and trees that provide shade later on, the Gemmrigheim wine views become inviting places to rest and relax, but also a meeting place for young and old, locals and visitors.

The Neckarschleifen e.V. regional development association sponsored the purchase of the benches.

The wooden posts were painted and designed together with an artist from Gemmrigheim during the summer and Christmas vacations as part of the municipality's children's holiday program.

As there is a considerable distance between the Steillagen-Rundwanderweg and the Neckar Käpt'n boat landing stage and the old town, a new route has been created for visitors.

Uniform lines have been placed on the ground to guide visitors to the start of the circular route and also to the old town and back again. In this way, the steep slopes have been linked with the Neckar and those arriving by boat can easily find their way.

Applicant: City of Besigheim

The aim of the applicant and the project participants (WeinKultur Kirchheim, Ortsbauernverband Kirchheim, Schutzgemeinschaft Kirchheimer Steillagen e.V.) is to promote and preserve the terraced steep slopes in Kirchheim. The Felsengartenkellerei has created a motorhome parking space in the existing parking lot opposite the Felsengartenkellerei. From the parking lot, you can see the Hessigheim rock gardens. These and the "most beautiful wine view" can be reached on foot in just a few minutes. This special parking location has already been used by motorhomes. A suitable space with electricity, water, waste water, etc. has now been created for these motorhomes. A sign also points out the steep slopes and the Hessigheim rock gardens.

Applicant: Felsengartenkellerei Besigheim eG

The Felsengartenkellerei has created a variety garden as a PIWI and steep slope sample terrace in the Hessigheim rock gardens. This near-natural variety garden shows typical grape varieties of steep slope viticulture as well as new fungus-resistant grape varieties. Signs on the vineyard stickers explain the different grape varieties and provide explanations. There are only a few vines of each grape variety. The grapes are not marketed. The modern approach of the vineyard experience area, which shows the different areas of life from the main crop, the vine, the soil flora, the insect world to the retreat area of the reptiles and the working and creative area of the Wengerter, is thus shown.

A wine vending machine was installed in an existing vineyard cottage on the highly frequented Felsengartenweg. This wine vending machine is self-sufficiently powered by a photovoltaic system on the roof of the vineyard cottage. It mainly offers steep slope wines. Contactless payment at the vending machine is possible. TheCO2-neutral wine vending machine underlines the nature-oriented approach of the Siggi winery.

Applicant: SIGGI winery

The dry stone wall that collapsed in winter was rebuilt. This is a basic requirement for the continued cultivation of the vineyard. The further collapse of the wall would have endangered an old hut that stands above the wall and should be preserved.

Applicant: Martin Joos

The remains of former vineyard cottages, concrete troughs for collecting water, are now no longer in use. Mini platforms made of galvanized steel with a grating floor were built on two troughs. This has created small viewing platforms with fixed wooden benches for seating, which also serve to prevent people from climbing onto the walls. Guided wine tours will also take place on the platforms.

To improve the usability of a terrace, it was completed with slabs and new benches, tables and parasols were procured. These are stored in an existing hut. In addition, a total of 50 typical vineyard plants (5 varieties) were planted.

A wine vending machine has been installed at the Käsbergkeller, where guests and tourists can also buy wine outside of opening hours. The vending machine is stocked with steep slope wines and has additional compartments for small gift baskets and other items. The idea is that hikers can buy the wine they have seen in the steep slopes and take it home with them.

Along an existing hiking trail in Mundelsheim, Lauffener Weingärtner eG has set up four panels as interactive stations for young and old. There are interesting facts about animals in the vineyard, the structure of a vine and work in the vineyard. Anyone who photographs or notes down the solutions will also receive a small gift in the Käsbergkeller Mundelsheim.
