Municipal representatives
for the interests of people with disabilities
The central challenge for the municipal commissioner for the interests of people with disabilities is the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The full and equal participation of people with disabilities, whether young or old, in all areas of society must be achieved. This is not about special rights for people with disabilities, but about indivisible basic and human rights that apply to everyone. Changes and improvements in the district, towns and municipalities in many respects are essential prerequisites for this. The goals must be the inclusive city, the municipality, the district or neighborhood, the realization of accessibility in all areas, i.e. in housing construction, in public spaces, in local public transport, in the workplace, in language and in the care and education system. The municipal commissioner for the interests of people with disabilities must provide suggestions and impetus to support local initiatives so that this goal can now be achieved as quickly as possible, step by step, 10 years after the adoption of the Convention. In accordance with the State Disability Equality Act, Ms. Lychacz also acts as a mediator (ombudsperson) between people with disabilities and the district.
