Carrying out large and/or heavy transports
In accordance with § 29 Para. 3 and § 46 Para. 1 No. 5 StVO, a permit or special permit is required for the transportation of large and heavy goods vehicles on the road. By issuing special conditions, including the definition of a route, the aim is to ensure that the flow of traffic is impeded as little as possible and the traffic infrastructure is protected from damage.
Legal situation
For a vehicle/vehicle combination that is already wider, higher or longer than the maximum dimensions according to the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) or has an increased gross vehicle weight, you require a special permit in accordance with § 70 StVZO. In Baden-Württemberg, the regional councils are responsible for this. The regional council of Stuttgart is responsible for the district of Ludwigsburg.
A permit in accordance with Section 29 (3) StVO is required for the movement of vehicles and trains whose dimensions, axle loads or total weights actually exceed the limits generally permitted by law. This also applies to traffic with vehicles whose design does not allow the driver a sufficient field of vision.
