We
- record notifications of communicable diseases and pathogens (notifiable according to § 6 and § 7 IfSG) from registered medical practitioners, hospitals and laboratories etc. and transmit them to the state health authority
- identify the sources of infection
and routes of spread in the patient's environment, e.g. contact persons, group illnesses - record undesirable effects of vaccines,
reporting obligation exists in accordance with § 6 IfSG. More information on this can be found on the website of the Paul Ehrlich Institute in Langen at www.pei.de.

provide advice on hygiene and disinfection measures as well as possible vaccinations
provide information on activity and employment bans when dealing with food (Section 42 IfSG)
and on regulations for schools and other community facilities (Section 34 IfSG) - deal with epidemiology, i.e. the spread of infectious diseases,
compile statistics on notifiable communicable diseases in cooperation with the doctors in the district of Ludwigsburg, the Baden-Württemberg State Health Office and the Robert Koch Institute, Berlin

Notifiable according to § 6 para.1+2 Infection Protection Act (IfSG) are:
- Doctors
- alternative practitioners
- Managers or providers of outpatient or (semi-)inpatient care facilities (Section 35 (1) IfSG)
- Facilities or their providers in accordance with Section 33 sentence 1 (without exception) and
- Facilities and their operators in accordance with Section 36 (1) Nos. 3-6 IfSG (shared accommodation, prisons).
Notifications must be made digitally within 24 hours via the German Electronic Reporting and Information System for Infection Protection (DEMIS).
There are basically 2 ways to do this:
- Reporting via the official DEMIS reporting portal(https://meldung.demis.rki.de).
- Reporting via FHIR interface via the individually used software product (e.g. practice management systems=PVS), provided that the DEMIS interface has been implemented by the software manufacturer.
