Asylum and refugee work

Benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act include basic benefits for the necessary requirements for food, accommodation, heating, clothing, health and personal care as well as household consumer goods.

In addition, supplementary benefits can be granted in the event of illness, pregnancy or other special circumstances.

To receive benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • You are an asylum seeker and have a residence permit.
  • You have a residence permit for humanitarian or international law reasons in accordance with § 1 of the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act.
  • You are in possession of a tolerated stay permit in accordance with § 60a of the Residence Act.
  • You are obliged to leave the country, even if a deportation order is not yet or no longer enforceable.
  • You are the spouse or minor child of a beneficiary.
  • You have submitted a subsequent or second application for recognition as a politically persecuted person.

You can only claim benefits if you have exhausted your own assets and income beforehand. This also applies to claims against persons who can cover your living expenses.

Please note: If you are able to work and still refuse a job opportunity without good reason, you can only be granted reduced benefits.

In order to receive benefits, you must apply for them in writing to the Ludwigsburg District Office. A simple letter to the Asylum and Migration Department is sufficient.

We also need the following documents from you:

  • a valid passport confirming your legal status as a foreigner
If applicable, proof of current income (payslip or similar) or assets
  • Tenancy agreement and rent certificate for private tenancy

Further documents may be requested in individual cases.

The lower admission authority will only grant benefits after your application has been submitted. Benefits will not be paid retroactively.

Beneficiaries are not covered by liability insurance under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act. You are free to take out liability insurance.

Important note:

After subsequent accommodation in the towns and municipalities of the Ludwigsburg district and accommodation in private accommodation, you must submit a new application if you still require benefits. Please contact our social services stafffor this.

Once a residence permit has been issued, benefits will be paid by the Jobcenter. Please note that you will need to submit a new application to the Jobcenter.
