Necessary documents

General documents required:

  • Identity card
    • Identity card or passport of the holder (a photocopy is sufficient). For companies: Business registration and extract from the commercial register
  • Insurance confirmation (eVB number consisting of 7 characters)
  • Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
  • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
  • General inspection report
    • If the main inspection has expired or if not evident from registration certificate Part I (vehicle registration document)
    • Technical report required for a modified vehicle
  • License plate number (if available and reserved)

Necessary documents for a power of attorney:

A power of attorney is required if the application is not submitted by the holder himself but by a person authorized by him (a power of attorney by fax is sufficient). The authorized person's identity document is required.

The written power of attorney must state that the registration authority may inform the authorized representative of any outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration processes as well as any outstanding motor vehicle tax arrears or ancillary payments for motor vehicle tax.

The registration can only take place after payment of the overdue fees, expenses and motor vehicle tax, ancillary services for motor vehicle tax.

Note

Applications for motor vehicle tax concessions, e.g. for vehicles used in agriculture and forestry or for motor vehicles of severely disabled persons and for the assessment of a trailer surcharge, must be submitted to the main customs office in Heilbronn.
