In the district of Ludwigsburg, there are around 68,000 pupils at public or private general education schools or vocational schools. While the organization of school transport, such as the provision of special transport in school vehicles, is the responsibility of the school authorities, the district is responsible for financing the necessary transport costs between home and school.
The district reimburses the necessary school transport costs on the basis of the statutes on the reimbursement of necessary school transport costs (SSchBefK) adopted by the district council. The current statutes with effect from 01.01.2026 were adopted by the district council on 18.07.2025.
The statutes regulate the requirements and scope of cost reimbursement, for example
- the priority of using local public transport over transportation in a specially equipped school vehicle or a private car
- the reasonable waiting time when using public transport and school vehicles. This is generally 45 minutes. This means that the arrival or departure at the school location should generally take place within 45 minutes before the start or after the end of lessons.
- the determination of a monthly share of the transportation costs to be borne by the pupils or their parents.
VVS booking procedure Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW
Most pupils in the district travel to school by public transport and use the Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW.
The Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW is offered as a purely annual subscription. The offer is available to children and young people at a lower price due to the considerable subsidization by the state and the districts. However, as part of the price increase for the DeutschlandTicket, the price of the D-TicketJugendBW will also rise from January 2026 from the current 473 euros per year to 540 euros per year. This means that 45 euros will have to be paid in 12 equal monthly installments. -The district will not subsidize any further public transport tickets.
The Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW can be ordered by parents/young people directly from the VVS
For children and young people who do not wish to use the Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW or for whom an annual subscription is not worthwhile, there are alternative ticket offers in the VVS. However, these are not subsidized by the district. Please contact the VVS directly to find out about these ticket offers.
