Permanent interventions in nature and the landscape, for example due to construction measures, are often unavoidable. However, they must be compensated for in a suitable form.
Since April 1, 2011, a compensation register under nature conservation law must be kept by the lower nature conservation authorities throughout Germany.
This consists of two parts:
Impact compensation
Compensation and replacement measures under nature conservation law are recorded here.
Eco-account
This serves to make the compensation measures more flexible and transparent for all parties involved. Measures to enhance natural habitats, improve the water balance and soil function or promote rare species are evaluated and recorded in the form of eco-points. In subsequent construction projects, these points are then offset against the compensation and replacement measures.
