Public transportation (ÖPNV)

in the district of Ludwigsburg

The district of Ludwigsburg is responsible for its own bus services and rail services that are not of regional importance. The district of Ludwigsburg is part of the Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund Stuttgart GmbH(VVS).

Bus services

The district invites tenders for bus transport services in competitive procedures throughout Europe. For this purpose, geographically connected bus routes are grouped together in bundles. The new transport services were awarded by December 2019. The last three bundles went into operation on 01.01.2020.

The regulations of the bus transport standards of the network districts apply.

The Stuttgart Regional Council is responsible for approving route concessions.

Each authority must publish an annual general report on the public service obligations falling within its area of responsibility.

Night buses

To supplement the night S-Bahn services at weekends, the night bus network with a total of 16 night bus routes provides hourly service to all towns and municipalities and larger districts in the district.

Interchanges between the S-Bahn lines and the night buses are available at the train stations in Ludwigsburg, Freiberg, Marbach, Bietigheim, Ditzingen, Kornwestheim and at the Zuffenhausen/Porsche stop. Timetable information can be obtained from the VVS timetable information service.

With the restart of the night buses in the Ludwigsburg district, a modified and improved route network went into operation on July 1, 2021. Around 11,000 additional residents now benefit from a new night bus service.

Local rail passenger transport (SPNV) / Rail routes

The state of Baden-Württemberg is responsible for local rail transport services. This does not include the Stuttgart S-Bahn, which is operated by the Verband Region Stuttgart.

The district of Ludwigsburg is responsible for the non-regionally important rail routes such as the Strohgäubahn.

In addition, the district of Ludwigsburg, in cooperation with the responsible municipalities, is working on the reactivation of the Bottwartalbahn and the introduction of the Stadtbahn Landkreis Ludwigsburg.

Local transport plan of the Ludwigsburg district

The local transport plan maps the current state of local public transport, analyzes transport interests and sets targets for sufficient transport services.

The current local transport plan was adopted by the district council on July 16, 2021.
