Projects
in the district of Ludwigsburg
Mobility does not end at city or district borders. That is why the Sustainable Mobility business unit places great value on exchange and networking. We like to learn from and with each other. If municipalities express the wish to start a project or if needs are expressed in network meetings, we think about the following: Could this affect more than one municipality? Who already has experience in this area? Where are there offers?
As part of the European Mobility Week (= EMW), the focus is on mobility with different focal points.
Today's children and young people are the ones who will shape and experience the mobility of tomorrow. That is why we want to offer their perspective a very special framework: From September 2025, schoolchildren in the district will be invited to express their views artistically.
The aim is an art exhibition in summer 2026.
You can find all information about the project here.
The aim of the #allesgeht walking campaign, which has been organized for the public by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fahrrad- und Fußverkehrsfreundlicher Kommunen in Baden-Württemberg e.V. (AGFK-BW) since 2024, is to raise awareness of walking as an important component of sustainable mobility.
In a playful way, attention is drawn to the many positive aspects of self-active walking: fun, health, togetherness, quality of life.
There are several exciting formats:
- In the "walk and talk" format, routes are made available for citizens to explore independently
- The "walking café" includes guided walks
- In the "steps challenge", routes covered on foot are documented in a friendly competition
We are also taking part in the #allesgeht. In 2025, in cooperation with the district of Heilbronn, we organized walks for the public for the first time, during which the diversity of the districts could be explored on foot.
The EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK (= EMW), a campaign launched by the European Commission in 2002, aims to raise awareness of the topic of mobility. It provides a framework for local authorities to introduce their citizens to the full range of sustainable mobility on the ground. Every year during the campaign period, innovative transport solutions are tried out or creative ideas are used to promote sustainable mobility in the municipalities. The District Office took part for the first time in 2024. Our sustainable mobility team made our employees particularly aware of the issue of mobility during the campaign week.
The Ludwigsburg District Office has been involved in official mobility management (BMM) for several years now and has therefore already gained a wealth of experience. Some of these were shared in a theme week on LinkedIn.
If you are looking for suggestions and support for BMM and are from the region, you can find answers at the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (WRS).
Information about our BMM can also be found here.
Three weeks a year in the district of Ludwigsburg: collect kilometers, strengthen team spirit and pedal together for more sustainable mobility, climate protection and health.
Whether to work, to school or in your free time - every kilometer counts! A small-scale competition creates additional excitement: Companies, schools, clubs - all can form sub-teams (for example for departments or school classes) and compete against each other within the main team. This year, schools will again have the opportunity to register for the special school cycling competition.
All cycling municipalities are supported by the state Ministry of Transport: The RadKULTUR initiative pays the participation fees and provides advertising materials and templates.

Background information on the CITY CYCLING campaign
CITY CYCLING is a campaign of Climate Alliance Services. Climate Alliance Services complements the organizational structure of the European city network Climate Alliance and bundles consulting offers, campaigns and services for data collection for the implementation of municipal climate protection measures. CITY CYCLING has been taking place since 2008 and in 2024 more than 220,000 people cycled in Baden-Württemberg alone during the campaign period.
Walking bus signs

Layout sign: Bus on legs
The so-called walking bus or bus on legs brings children together on their way to school and thus ensures greater safety. This reduces parent cabs and contributes to the healthy development of children.
The Ludwigsburg District Office has designed a sign so that children can meet up and walk to school together. Local authorities can order these here and set them up after carefully choosing a location (with the support of the road traffic authority if necessary).
Movers
How do we reduce parent cabs? How do we motivate children to come to school on their own and what are the prerequisites for this? These questions are asked by almost all local authorities in the district. While researching suitable ideas, contact was made with MOVERS - Active to School. "Under MOVERS - Active to School, the state of Baden-Württemberg bundles measures for safe and active routes to school. The interministerial (transport, education and interior ministries) state program advises and supports schools and local authorities in the planning and implementation of various modules that enable children and young people to travel safely and actively. The project is coordinated at state level by Nahverkehrsgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg mbH (NVBW)."
Information on MOVERS can be found here.
There are infrastructure modules and action modules. At an information event organized by the Sustainable Mobility division in July 2023, all district municipalities were first informed about the advisory services offered by Movers. The district became a pilot municipality for "Schulwegprofis" - a service for elementary school. During a campaign period of three weeks, children and parents were encouraged to make their own way to school. We visited two of the schools taking part for the first time; others sent us reports on their ideas for implementation. You can find impressions in our picture gallery.

Following a successful pilot in the district of Ludwigsburg and further development of the participatory campaign, elementary school throughout Baden-Württemberg will be able to take part in the "Schulwegprofis" from 2024 onwards and thus draw attention to the topic of safe and active routes to school right at the start of the school year.
A lot is happening in Baden Würtemberg for the transport transition. As all districts are working on similar issues and yet these differ from municipal issues, a networking round between districts on the topic of sustainable mobility was initiated by the Ludwigsburg District Office in July 2023. Currently, 12 districts around Ludwigsburg and beyond are participating. The digital meetings are to take place approximately quarterly.
