Foreign driving licenses (non-EU)
Driving licenses issued in a country that is not a member state of the European Union (EU) or a signatory state to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA) entitle the holder to drive a motor vehicle for a period of 6 months from the date of taking up normal residence in Germany.
NoteThe application to transfer a foreign driving license must be submitted in good time before the 6-month period expires. Please note that it may take longer to process these applications.
Required documents:
- Application for initial issue and extension
- Identity card or passport or other identification document
- a biometric passport photo (35 x 45 mm)
- copy of foreign driving license
- First entry data from the responsible immigration office
The application can be deposited in the mailbox of the
- Ludwigsburg driving license authority
- Besigheim branch office
- Vaihingen an der Enz branch office
can be posted. It is also possible to apply at the town hall of the municipality of residence (except for the city of Ludwigsburg).
A personal visit to the driving license authority is only possible after prior online appointment at the Ludwigsburg district office or the Besigheim and Vaihingen an der Enz branch offices.
