The Ludwigsburg Forest Initiative was founded in 1997 by the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald (SDW) and the Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND) under the patronage of District Administrator Dr. Haas.
The aim of the forest initiative is to create new forest areas in Baden-Württemberg's least forested district. This is no easy task given the conflicting demands of high-yield agricultural land use and high building pressure in residential areas. Since the initiative was launched, the forest area in the district has already been increased by around 31 hectares. In the future, too, all opportunities should be seized to meet the desire for "more" forest.
