Death of pets

In the district of Ludwigsburg

General information

What to do with your pet after it dies? If an animal is terminally ill and is clearly suffering, a dignified end should be decided together with the vet.

Individual carcasses of pets may

  • be buried under a layer of soil at least 50 cm thick on your own property - but not in water protection areas and not in the immediate vicinity of public paths and squares,
  • be buried in places approved for this purpose (animal cemeteries) or
  • are delivered to animal crematoria. (Reference: § 27 para. 3 Animal By-products Disposal Ordinance)

If these options are not possible, the animal's body must be disposed of via a rendering plant.

A map of the water protection areas and zones can be found on the homepage of the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Environmental Protection. (In the navigation column on the left, click on the entry Water protection area or zone (entry with the globe and the "+" symbol)).
