In 2023, a number of measures were implemented to improve the situation in the emergency department: Internal processes and structures were revised so that, for example, patients can be treated more quickly and, if necessary, transferred from the emergency department to the hospital more quickly. The Federal Joint Committee now stipulates that new patients may not wait longer than ten minutes before being admitted to the first admission.
District administrator in conversation with doctors and staff: "The process is far from over"
The measures are also to be gradually implemented in the new year. In spring, for example, a service for patients is to be made available on the RKH Gesundheit website, which will provide information on how long the average patient's treatment takes, how many patients are currently being treated and how many of these patients have life-threatening illnesses. This creates transparency for waiting patients. There will also be a symptom checker, which patients can use to answer a few questions and receive an initial assessment of their symptoms and the urgency of treatment, as well as an associated treatment recommendation.
"We are nowhere near the end of the process," summarizes District Administrator Allgaier. "But we are on the right track, as can be seen from the already improved and faster processes for patient admission and many other measures that are currently being implemented or have already been implemented."
All those involved agreed that there is still a need for action, particularly with regard to the further expansion of nursing and medical staff. According to Allgaier, it must be possible to make the ZNA more attractive as a workplace and the hospital more attractive as an employer.
A catalog of measures is gradually being implemented to improve the situation
In May 2022, employees at the Ludwigsburg Clinic's ZNA wrote a letter to the management, chairmen of the supervisory board, medical directors and the clinic's works council, complaining about the excessive workload, among other things. As a result, the management commissioned an external consulting firm to carry out a process analysis last year. This resulted in a catalog of measures that has since been gradually implemented.
