LUCIE light rail: High funding rates secure investment in climate-friendly mobility

The planned LUCIE light rail system is one of the key infrastructure projects in the Ludwigsburg district. In addition to its transport and ecological benefits, the project also offers stable framework conditions from a financial perspective: The federal and state governments are covering the majority of the costs, so that the burden for the municipalities involved remains manageable.

The image presents information about investment distribution for the project LUCIE. It indicates that 95% of the funding comes from federal and state sources, while 5% is contributed by municipalities. A hand is pointing to the graphic, emphasizing the investment breakdown.

According to current calculations, the cost of reactivating the existing Markgröningen line amounts to around 103 million euros. Around 95 percent of this will be covered by federal and state subsidies. The federal and state governments will also cover around 87 percent of the costs for the planned new section of around 34 million euros. A large proportion of the planning costs will also be covered by the federal and state governments.

The remaining costs will be distributed transparently among the member municipalities, based on the respective benefits. This ensures that the financing remains calculable for the cities and municipalities.

In addition, the Zweckverband Stadtbahn im Landkreis Ludwigsburg has submitted an application to the state of Baden-Württemberg to cover the operating costs. If approved, this will also contribute to long-term financial stability.

"We are creating a sustainable, climate-friendly infrastructure for the future - with an exceptionally high level of funding from the federal and state governments," explains Michael Ilk, head of Stadtbahn. "Thanks to funding rates of up to 95 percent, LUCIE is a long-term investment that will pay for itself over the coming decades."
