CARE WORK ...
... it begins with obstetrics, but also includes childcare and care professions, nursing and care of the elderly, as well as work in the household and in the family, right through to grave care. What they have in common: a lot of responsibility, little appreciation.
Care work is performed in particular by those who
care for and look after children, neighbors or other people in need of care,
do this work privately, professionally, politically, in an interest group, an institution or organization, in their own household or as a volunteer,
paid or unpaid.
THE EQUAL CARE DAY
The Equal Care Day initiative offers everyone who is active in the areas of care and nursing, family work, mental load and gender equality the opportunity to get involved together, discuss causes and undesirable developments and develop solutions. Further information can be found on the Internet at https://equalcareday.de/.
THE INTIATIVE
Equal Care Day is an initiative of klische*esc e.V., a non-profit organization
association for the promotion of freedom of choice beyond limiting role stereotypes.
WHY ON THE DAY OF THE SWITCH?
February 29 is overlooked three out of four years, not seen ... just like care work often is. What's more, it is mainly women who take on these tasks. Whether at work, in the family or in voluntary work, women perform over 80 percent of care work. This means that they contribute four times as much as men. The day of action therefore draws attention to the fact that it takes men four years to do the same amount of care work that women do in just one year. What's more, this is often dismissed as a private decision and therefore not considered work at all.
THE NETWORK IN LUWIGSBURG
The Equal Opportunities Officers from the city and district of Ludwigsburg, the Equal Opportunities Officer at the Ludwigsburg Employment Agency, the Ludwigsburg Care Support Center, the Ludwigsburg District Elderly Care Advisory Service and employees of the RKH Kliniken Ludwigsburg Care Advisory Service take up the challenge of care and work and offer information, events and specialist presentations!
According to the district care plan, 13,984 people of the 4th age (80+) lived in the district of Ludwigsburg in 1990. In 2010 there were already 23,845 people. By 2025 (2030), we expect 37,805 (38,470) people in the district to be very old. This means that there will be 24,486 more very old people in 2030 than in 1990.
Even if the percentage of men providing care is increasing, the majority of care work will continue to be carried out by women. They do this as wives, daughters, daughters-in-law, mothers and trained carers.
The challenge of the continuing increase in necessary care work is a task for society as a whole. For this reason, the network Herausforderung Pflege und Beruf stands for greater appreciation and a fair distribution of care work.
