Strohgäubahn special-purpose association visits modernized Heimerdingen station and new vehicles

Heimerdingen railroad station was renovated during the summer vacations and reopened at the start of the school year. Representatives of the members of the Zweckverband Strohgäubahn (ZSB) recently took the opportunity to visit the modernized station. They also took a look at the two new vehicles of the Strohgäubahn operated by Württembergische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (WEG).

The renovation of Heimerdingen station included the complete refurbishment of the tracks and the two points from the level crossing to the exit signal to Weissach and the barrier-free expansion and extension of the platform, including access and lighting. The modernization also included the renewal of the deep drainage, the new construction of the cable routes, the renewal of the shunting routes including ballast support, the new construction of the electrical distribution and the points heating as well as the renovation of the shunting lighting. The total costs amount to around 2.1 million euros. The special-purpose association is receiving funding from the state for the modernization of the station. The funding rate is up to 75 percent of the eligible costs.

Almost full timetable again on the entire route at the start of the school year

During the construction period of ten weeks, a rail replacement service was set up between Schwieberdingen and Heimerdingen because no railcars were able to travel to Heimerdingen due to the work. By the start of the school year, the construction work had been completed to such an extent that the trains were able to resume operations and passengers on the Strohgäubahn were able to use the timetabled service, with initially minor restrictions, on the entire route from Korntal to Heimerdingen.

Access to the station is now possible via both Feuerbacher Straße and Bahnhofstraße

The remaining work has now been completed. Access to the station is now possible via both Feuerbacher Straße and Bahnhofstraße.

During the on-site visit, the ZSB members also inspected the two new vehicles that the ZSB has acquired from the Bodensee-Oberschwaben-Bahn and which have been converted for the purposes of the Strohgäubahn in the last two years.
