"Outpatient residential care communities enable a life in community, self-determination and dignity - in the middle of the neighborhood. By extending the funding, we are sending out a clear signal for neighbourhood-based and family care as an alternative to nursing homes," emphasizes District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.
With the extension, the district is sending a clear signal for the further expansion of alternative forms of living and care. Outpatient residential care communities (PflegeWGs) offer people in need of care the opportunity to live together in small, family-like groups of up to twelve people and to organize their lives largely independently. They are an important supplement to inpatient care facilities and promote participation, individuality and personal responsibility.
Eight residential care communities funded since 2014
Since the funding guideline was introduced in 2014, eight residential care communities in the district of Ludwigsburg have already been supported with investment grants. Seven facilities are currently in operation, with another to follow in November 2025. In addition, four new projects are currently in the planning phase.
The 2025 to 2029 investment program has 100,000 euros available for funding each year, i.e. a total of 400,000 euros for the entire funding period. Support is planned for two new outpatient residential care communities per year.
"Residential care communities are a forward-looking alternative to inpatient care," emphasizes Heike Dierbach, Head of Social Affairs, Nursing and Care. "They help people with care needs to live in familiar surroundings and relieve the burden on relatives."
Contributing to security of care throughout the district
Experience to date in the district shows that the funding makes an important contribution to security of supply and diversity of care services. Particularly in the more rural areas, the expansion is to be driven forward in the coming years in order to achieve nationwide coverage.
