Robotics competition with World Cup flair at the district media center

A total of 24 pupils from three elementary school met on Tuesday (5 May 2026) at the district media center (KMZ) in the Ludwigsburg district building for a robotics competition. The children used special building blocks to construct robots and solve tasks. Divided into six teams, they put their skills in teamwork, creativity and programming to the test.

The pupils solved the tasks with teamwork, creativity and skill.

Creative technology competition including light show

The competition consisted of two parts: First, the pupils from Heimerdingen, Korntal-Münchingen and Benningen developed a light and sound show based on a fictitious World Cup soccer match using plug-in elements. With the help of tablets, hubs (control units) and sensors, they also created an admission control system. The self-built figures of the teams were only allowed to pass through the entrance area with a green "ticket". There were no limits to creativity during the light show: some groups had their light matrices illuminated in the colors of different national flags. The teams then presented their results to the other groups and a jury.

Teamwork and quick agreements

After an active lunch break outdoors and a refreshment of pizza in the KMZ, the second round began. In keeping with the soccer match, a motorcade was now to be implemented. Each group built a vehicle with four seats and programmed it to drive itself across a mat without touching the painted obstacles such as trees, snack stands or people. Despite some technical challenges, the groups worked together in a confident, focused and solution-oriented manner. The coordination between the pupils worked quickly and efficiently.

Three winning schools

Whether it was a light show, a self-recorded countdown or the announcements of the stadium announcer: after two intensive rounds of work, all six groups came together with their teachers in the KMZ in the afternoon. Prizes were awarded to the teams with the best teamwork, the most successful programming and the most creative implementation. All pupils from the three participating schools received trophies, individual participation certificates and goodie bags.

Part of a nationwide project

The competition was not only held in the district of Ludwigsburg: Teams from a total of 21 other urban and rural districts in Baden-Württemberg took part. The Baden-Württemberg State Media Center equips around 100 elementary school with robotics kits every year. The competition is organized jointly by the Hopp Foundation, the Baden-Württemberg State Media Centre and the local media centers.
