Planting campaign for a climate-stable forest

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier and Vaihingen Mayor Gerd Maisch planted three oaks and three Douglas firs in the Vaihingen Hardtwald forest. A symbolic action to underline the importance of the oak for a climate-stable forest.

Three men stand in a grassy field, holding tools for planting. Two wear red jackets and one is in a suit. They are smiling and appearing to participate in a tree-planting activity, with young trees in trays nearby.

"The oak is something of a 'hidden champion' in our forests," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, "it is so ubiquitous that you could almost forget how important it is for the local forest." Together with the Mayor of Vaihingen, Gerd Maisch, the District Administrator planted around a dozen young trees in the Vaihingen municipal forest. In addition to oaks, there were also some Douglas firs. The oak is characterized in particular by the fact that it copes well with extreme heat and severe drought. The Douglas fir has similarly robust characteristics. The campaign was a so-called supplementary planting. A few years ago, oaks had already been planted in these parts of the forest. Young trees have now been planted wherever these could not gain a foothold.
