The initiative stems from the growing difficulties tradespeople face in finding parking spaces near their customers’ locations, as well as the significant administrative burden involved in applying for special parking permits. Until now, businesses have had to apply for special permits for every job involving difficult parking conditions in order to park their installation and service vehicles close to the job site. While some cities already offer annual permits, these are valid only for a single city and cover different services.
Under the leadership of District Economic Development Officer Oliver Reichert, a standardized, cross-regional tradesman’s parking permit was therefore developed in collaboration with the Ludwigsburg District Trades Association and all relevant transportation authorities in the district. This permit is applied for once a year, is recognized in all cities and municipalities within the Ludwigsburg district, and offers uniform benefits under uniform conditions. “It is only through close cooperation with our municipalities and their relevant authorities that we are able to present this result today. I would like to thank everyone involved for their support,” emphasizes District Administrator Allgaier.
Successful Project Completion Through Strong Municipal Cooperation
With the signing of the public-law agreement by the municipal transportation authorities, all prerequisites for the program’s implementation have now been met. The successful completion of this project marks the implementation of a key component of the district’s future strategy. In addition to the district’s economic development agency and the district craftsmen’s association, the transportation authorities of the municipalities of Besigheim, Bietigheim-Bissingen, Ditzingen, Freiberg am Neckar, Gerlingen, Korntal-Münchingen, Kornwestheim, Ludwigsburg, Marbach am Neckar, Pleidelsheim, Remseck am Neckar, Vaihingen an der Enz, and the Ludwigsburg district. The project thus underscores the shared commitment to strengthening and supporting the regional skilled trades sector. “This decision sends an important signal to our tradespeople. Shorter commutes
and less time spent looking for parking mean more time for the actual work,” says District Master Craftsman Albrecht Lang, expressing his delight at the new offering.
Tradespeople’s Parking Permit Offers Attractive Benefits Throughout the Entire District
The new district-wide craftsman parking permit offers benefits that go beyond most existing municipal regulations. The following special privileges apply in conjunction with the permit:
- Exemption from parking fees on public streets
- No maximum parking duration (except in short-term parking zones under 30 minutes) and no requirement to use a parking disc
- Parking in areas with restricted stopping and in no-stopping zones, even outside the marked areas
- Parking in resident-only parking areas
- Parking in traffic-calmed areas, even outside the marked areas
These special permits are valid exclusively for the duration of on-site work at customer locations and only on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Who Can Apply for the Permit
Businesses that perform skilled trades and require a vehicle directly at the job site for their work are eligible to apply. Membership in a trade association is not a requirement. The vehicles must be service and installation vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 7.5 metric tons that are used to transport tools, machinery, or materials.
The administrative fee for an annual permit is 200 euros. The permit can be registered for up to three vehicles belonging to a single business. However, it may not be used for multiple vehicles at the same time; rather, it may be used for only one of the registered vehicles at a time. Businesses with greater needs may apply for multiple permits.
Applications Accepted Starting September 1
The aforementioned businesses in the Ludwigsburg district can submit applications starting September 1 to the local motor vehicle authority responsible for their company headquarters or branch office. These authorities will verify whether the requirements are met and issue the permits for a fee. Businesses headquartered outside the Ludwigsburg district can apply for the tradespeople’s parking permit at the traffic authority of the municipality where they first begin operating within the district.
