Information on the diversity and origin of fruit

Interactive learning stations, exhibits and easy-to-understand display boards invite school classes and interested consumers to find out about the variety and origin of fruit and its importance to health in the daily diet. There are all sorts of things to discover and tasks to solve. For example, it is not always easy to differentiate between the individual types of fruit and assign them to the seasons. After all, it is now possible to buy a type of fruit in shops all over the world and at almost any time of year. It is also important to find out what valuable ingredients the fruit contains and why two handfuls of fruit should be eaten each day.

"The focus of our nutritional information and education is on sustainable and healthy eating," says Scheel. The menu of the future is based on a plant-based diet. Fruit in its colorful variety provides many vitamins and minerals as well as valuable secondary plant substances and fiber.

Proper storage and processing at home are important for maintaining the quality of fruit and avoiding food waste. Fruit with small imperfections that does not conform to the norm also provides valuable vitamins and minerals and can be processed into tasty dishes in the kitchen. The processing of these "special editions", i.e. fruit that does not conform to the norm, correct purchasing behavior, regional cultivation and the avoidance of packaging waste are further points that contribute to climate protection. The main focus here is on regionality and seasonality as a factor influencingCO2 reduction.
