Ludwigsburg municipal council informed about the status of implementation of the light rail project - Light rail network must first be defined for engineering planning

On Friday (28 January 2022), the "Stadtbahn im Landkreis Ludwigsburg" special purpose association, chaired by District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier and Managing Director Frank von Meißner, together with Lord Mayor Dr. Matthias Knecht and Mayor Sebastian Mannl from the City of Ludwigsburg, informed the members of the municipal council about the current status of the implementation of the Stadtbahn project.

The focus of the event was to provide information and the opportunity to answer questions of understanding from the local council at first hand. "In this respect, this event was important in order to prepare for the public discussion in the committees of the Ludwigsburg municipal council and to reach a decision in the first half of the year," all those involved agreed.

Among other things, the event also dealt with the timetable and the next planning steps that are necessary to get both the Markgröningen branch line as an early measure and the light rail network as such off the ground. This is because the engineering (preliminary) planning as the basis for a traffic benefit-cost study is due to start as early as mid-2022. The light rail network must be defined for these extensive studies, as the special purpose association emphasizes.

The potential analysis for alternative southern route variants of the light rail system was also explained in more detail: at the request of Lord Mayor Dr. Matthias Knecht, three alternative southern routes from Pattonville via Grünbühl-Sonnenberg, Ludwigsburg's southern city with Karlshöhe and Evangelische Hochschule as well as the W&W Campus were examined with regard to their traffic effects. The results showed that these southern variants are comparable with the previously assumed variant (Mitfall 1 network) of a route through Hindenburgstraße.
