Municipal trainees bring climate protection into everyday working life

In the "Municipal Climate Scouts" project, trainees from administrations and a kindergarten showed how climate protection can be implemented in everyday municipal work. On Thursday, 26 March 2026, the teams of the 2025/26 round were awarded prizes at the "Das K" culture and congress center in Kornwestheim. The district prize was awarded to the team from Steinheim.

Around 30 trainees in eight teams took part in the project (Ludwigsburg District Office).

A total of around 30 trainees in eight teams took part in the project: one team each from Bietigheim-Bissingen, Ditzingen, Gemmrigheim, Ludwigsburg, Remseck and Steinheim as well as from the Ludwigsburg district office and the Ludwigsburg district energy agency LEA e.V. The aim of the training format is to raise awareness of climate protection in the workplace among junior employees at an early stage and to enable them to implement their own ideas.

As part of the training, the trainees developed and implemented their own climate protection projects at their workplace - including, for example, a craft activity in the company nursery or a sustainability cookbook. At the final event, the teams presented their projects and answered questions from the audience. They were accompanied by mentors from their administrations.

Axel Waltner, Head of the Climate Protection Division at Ludwigsburg District Office, opened the event and praised the commitment of the trainees: "You can discover new potential with a fresh perspective on administrative processes. In addition, you are not only making a direct contribution to reducing emissions: Your commitment also has a positive external impact and you are actively helping to shape the future of your cities and municipalities."

Joint project by administration and daycare center trainees wins out

After the presentation of all the projects, the jury selected the winning team for the district prize. This year's jury consisted of Albrecht Lang (Kreishandwerkerschaft), Florina Wolf (Stadt Sachsenheim), Kristina Rang (Energieagentur Kreis Ludwigsburg LEA e.V.) and Fred Allenstein (Fridays for Future Ludwigsburg). They chose the team of trainees from Steinheim, who have created a sustainable cookbook. The recipes are vegan and gluten-free, so that all children in the kindergarten can take part in cooking together - regardless of dietary habits and intolerances.

"We found it exciting that trainees from two worlds worked together in Steinheim: Administration and daycare. It's particularly nice that they took a holistic approach to the topic of food: vegan, regional and seasonal," said Kristina Rang, explaining the decision.

The winning team received a voucher for a visit to the experimentain Heilbronn or the KLIMA ARENA in Sinsheim, including catering. They also received the challenge cup from last year's winning municipality, Ludwigsburg.

Fifth edition of the project in the district of Ludwigsburg

In the "Municipal climate scouts - trainees for more climate protection" project, young municipal employees qualify for climate protection measures in the workplace. The project is thus making a contribution towards a climate-neutral municipal administration. At the same time, local authorities can save energy costs in the long term through climate protection and energy efficiency measures.

The workshop program, which was implemented by Energieagentur Kreis Ludwigsburg (LEA) e.V. and supported by the Ludwigsburg District Office, took place for the fifth time in the district. In addition to content on municipal climate protection, it teaches the basics of project management and communication.
