Avian influenza: Restricted area to be lifted from April 16 and transferred to observation area

The restricted area, which was ordered due to the outbreak of avian influenza on a farm in Oberriexingen, will be lifted from April 16 and transferred to the observation area. This is due to the investigations and examinations and the resulting risk assessment carried out by the Veterinary and Food Monitoring Department of the District Office. In particular, this removes the requirement for certain poultry farms to keep poultry in their enclosures.

With the lifting of the measures for the restricted area, the requirements of the observation area apply to the former restricted area. The following measures, among others, must be observed here:

- Requirements for reporting poultry farmers to the veterinary office.
- Movement bans for live poultry, poultry meat and eggs from and into poultry flocks.
- Compliance with biosecurity measures and epidemic hygiene measures to prevent the introduction and spread of avian influenza.

This means that the marketing of eggs in the observation area is still subject to requirements, for example that they must be marked with a producer code at a packing station and packed in egg cartons. The marketing of fresh poultry meat from own slaughter from the observation area is also only possible again after the lifting of the observation area.

A detailed list of all measures that must still be observed in the observation area can be found in the general decree of March 29. This can be found on the website of the district office. All necessary measures, such as risk-oriented sampling in the restricted area, must be completed before the observation area can be lifted. However, it can only be lifted on April 24 at the earliest and only if all necessary measures have been completed and there is no renewed outbreak of the disease.
