The conversion replaces the old, provisional room concept from the 1990s and now creates bright, open and flexible common areas for the school's 1,700 pupils. In addition to the assembly hall, the canteen area was also redesigned and equipped with a modern "cook-and-chill" kitchen.
"You could almost say: if a building could tell a story, then these walls here in Pattonville would have a lot to tell - from American high school times to the 'temporary building on steel supports'," said District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier in his speech. "Today, however, we are able to open a place that no longer looks like a temporary solution, but like the future."
A school in transition - for almost 30 years
The district took over the building of the former US high school back in 1996 and converted it into a commercial school. Since then, the Erich Bracher School has continued to develop: It has built up an excellent reputation with new courses such as the Wirtschaftsgymnasium, the Berufskolleg Wirtschaftsinformatik or the Ausbildungsvorbereitung Dual (AVDual) as well as innovative projects such as the training camp for warehouse logistics - the first of its kind in Baden-Württemberg - which opened in April 2025.
"Our school stands for practical training, modern teaching methods and strong partnerships with companies from the region," emphasized principal Oliver Schmider. "The new common area is far more than just a structural improvement - it makes a significant contribution to ensuring that learning at the Erich Bracher School takes place in an atmosphere in which everyone simply feels comfortable."
Well equipped for the future with modernizations
The modernization of the student recreation area rounds off the extensive expansion and conversion measures of recent years. The new school and office wing, which offers additional classrooms, teacher workstations and barrier-free access, was inaugurated in 2022. With the new photovoltaic system on the classroom wing, which is operated by the company Energiewende Region Ludwigsburg, the district is also sending a clear signal for sustainability.
