Emergency services of the blue light organizations in the district awarded the state's civil protection medal

On Thursday (16 October 2025), District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier presented 143 emergency personnel from the district's blue light organizations with the state's Civil Protection Medal. The medal was awarded to emergency personnel from the fire departments, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG), the German Red Cross (DRK) and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) who were deployed for more than 24 hours in total during the floods at the beginning of June 2024. This is a new award from the state of Baden-Württemberg.

A total of 143 emergency services personnel who were deployed for more than 24 hours were presented with the state's Civil Protection Medal on 16.10.25.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier said at the award ceremony in the atrium of the district administration office: "I am delighted to award you the Civil Protection Service Medal today on behalf of the state of Baden-Württemberg. You are part of a community that takes responsibility - for our fellow human beings, for our district, but also beyond that. Their commitment is a foundation on which our society rests." The head of the district administration thanked the emergency services for their extraordinary commitment and emphasized that the management of this challenging situation was only possible thanks to the exemplary cooperation and tireless efforts of all blue light organizations.

Thanks and respect from District Fire Chief Adrian Wibel

"The emergency services were deployed across almost the entire district to deal with the flooding and heavy rainfall. This tireless effort deserves the highest recognition and respect and a big thank you for their service to others," said Adrian Wibel, District Fire Chief at the Stuttgart Regional Council.

The flooding and heavy rainfall event at the end of May and beginning of June 2024 called on a large number of emergency services in Baden-Württemberg. In addition to the district of Ludwigsburg, the districts of Göppingen and Esslingen, as well as the Ostalbkreis and Rems-Murr-Kreis were also severely affected. This was followed by hours and days in which the emergency services pumped out cellars, filled countless sandbags and evacuated a large number of people. When it came to delivering filled sandbags to the district of Göppingen, the district of Ludwigsburg was the quickest district to spontaneously agree to help, Wibel reported appreciatively.

New award from the state for civil protection

The state of Baden-Württemberg recognizes exceptional civil protection operations with this medal. The four emergency services with the highest number of deployment hours from the district were already honored in the summer at a major awards ceremony in Stuttgart by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Thomas Strobl. This means that a total of 147 emergency services personnel from the district have received the medal.
