The "Heat Protection Team" from the Ludwigsburg Health Department presents local authorities in the district with an information package on the subject of heat protection

With summer just around the corner, the district council's health department is sending out an information pack on heat protection to local authorities in the district. Thomas Schäfer, Mayor of the municipality of Hemmingen, accepted the information package on behalf of the municipalities from Dr. Karlin Stark, Head of the Health Department of the Ludwigsburg district, and Dr. Robin Maitra, Climate Protection Officer of the State Medical Association and practising doctor in Hemmingen. Hemmingen has been committed to heat protection in the Ludwigsburg district since the start of the round table.

A diverse group of six people stands on steps outdoors, smiling and holding colorful water bottles and a brochure. They appear engaged and positive, with lush greenery in the background, suggesting a community event focused on sustainability or health.

The Ludwigsburg Health Department's "Heat Action Plan Team" would like to support the local authorities in the district with an information package to help them prepare for the summer heat. Over the next few days, each local authority will therefore receive an information package consisting of the heat action plan, heat brochures, cool map postcards and a cool map poster.

Heat action plan: Ludwigsburg district is a pioneer

In 2024, the district of Ludwigsburg was one of the first districts in Germany to publish a heat action plan. The district-wide heat action plan aims to protect people who are vulnerable to heat in particular from heat and the associated health risks. It includes measures to educate and inform the population as well as action plans that have been drawn up together with various institutions, such as care homes and schools, as well as local authorities on the subject of heat protection. These can be used by individual institutions and local authorities as a template for establishing their own measures. They are supplemented by a district-wide heat alarm system. This is triggered when heat events are expected to last at least three days. It distinguishes between two levels: Over 32 degrees (level 1) or over 38 degrees (level 2).

Find cool places in the district using the cool map

In addition, the health department offers all citizens the opportunity to find cool places (such as outdoor pools, drinking fountains or shady, cool places) in the district of Ludwigsburg using the Cool Map. The Cool Map is a participatory project and can be added to by anyone.

Anyone interested can find the heat action plan, the cool map and further information on the topics of heat and health on the district administration's website at
