This is to prevent the heavily used logistics and aid structures from being blocked. Most recently, the headquarters of the Polish and Ukrainian Red Cross made an appeal to their sister societies, pointing out that there is no capacity to accept unagreed and unrequested assistance and support services. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier therefore appeals to all citizens who want to help: "As much as we welcome the willingness to help, it is urgently necessary to coordinate offers of support with the respective local communities in advance." Donations in kind make sense when the major aid organizations call for them. At the moment, monetary donations are more in demand.
The private accommodation of refugees should also be coordinated with the respective city and municipal administrations. As the refugees quickly receive a residence permit and therefore do not stay in the district's temporary accommodation for long, the municipalities are the right contacts for accommodation offers. "We can only help the refugees if appropriate housing, secure care and subsequently other services, such as kindergarten places, can be guaranteed," emphasizes District Administrator Allgaier.
Low-threshold offers, for example apartments and accommodation up to a maximum of 20 places, should therefore be examined by the respective local authorities, while larger offers of accommodation with more than 20 places should be forwarded to the district office.
