Due to the coronavirus pandemic: late harvest market 2020 canceled

Following the cancellation of most major festivals and events in the Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg area due to the coronavirus, the Spätlingsmarkt 2020 will also not take place. This was announced by District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier to the district councillors and stand operators on Wednesday (August 12).

A wooden display features various bottles of syrup. There are two distinct types: clear, golden syrups labeled "Rosenliker" and dark syrups, each adorned with a label depicting nuts. The arrangement highlights multiple bottles, showcasing their elegant designs and colors.

Will not take place again until 2021: the late market at the district office.

The decision had already been foreshadowed. According to experts, the greatest risk of infection with the coronavirus currently comes from major events. "We very much regret it, but our obligation to protect health takes precedence over our need to hold the late-night market," was the unanimous opinion at the meeting of the council of elders of the district council. The issue was made a top priority in this committee. "We didn't make it easy for ourselves. Even with the help of concrete proposals regarding a possible concept in the form of a pure sales market without tasting and in compliance with hygiene regulations, observance of distance rules with the help of a route guidance, we could not decide to hold it. In this form, the Spätlingsmarkt would no longer be the market that we know, appreciate and love. As sad and hard as this decision is, the protection of guests from the Ludwigsburg district, from our partner districts, the Stuttgart region and Heilbronn, from near and far, comes first," states District Administrator Allgaier.

The cancellation of the Spätlingsmarkt is particularly bad news for the stall operators. The traditional Spätlingsmarkt event would once again have offered stall holders and direct marketers the opportunity to present themselves and their products. Many of them do not have their own stores and are therefore dependent on these markets. The Spätlingsmarkt has established itself as a customer magnet in the fall before the start of the Christmas markets and has become an integral part of the event calendar in Ludwigsburg. It would have opened its doors to visitors for the 24th time in 2020. The addresses of the stand operators can be found on the online map on the district administration's website. It has not yet been decided whether the fruit brandy award ceremony of the small and fruit distillers' association and the sausage award ceremony of the butchers' guild will take place without a tasting at the district office despite the pandemic. There will once again be a district cider in 2020 made from apples from orchards.

The district is already inviting all interested visitors to the Spätlingsmarkt 2021 from November 8 to 13 at the Ludwigsburg District Office, Hindenburgstraße 30 and 40.
