Touring exhibition on the Baden-Württemberg State Prize for Building Culture 2024 launches at Ludwigsburg District Office

The future of building lies in a new re-building culture. The exhibition for the State Prize for Building Culture Baden-Württemberg 2024 sets an example for this new re-building culture and honors outstanding answers to current questions of planning and building. From July 24 to August 15, 2024, interested parties can visit the exhibition at the Ludwigsburg District Office.

"With the State Prize for Building Culture, we are recognizing outstanding answers to current issues in planning and building in the state," says Nicole Razavi, Minister for State Development and Housing Baden-Württemberg. This year's award ceremony also set an example for a new rebuilding culture, she continued.

The state prizes in nine categories and the 18 commendations were selected by the jury, some of whom were international, from a total of 235 projects submitted. Possible approaches to redesigning communities and dealing with existing buildings are presented and exemplified. It also considers how buildings, open spaces and infrastructures can be constructed in such a way that they can also be used well in the future.

The Mühlensteg in Besigheim was awarded a prize from the district of Ludwigsburg. The new construction of the 117-metre-long foot and cycle bridge over the River Enz in Besigheim connected the medieval old town with the redesigned park area by the river and the adjacent urban areas. The innovative and self-anchored suspension bridge is extremely resource-efficient thanks to its material-saving hollow structure and also offers a spectacular view of the surrounding Enza floodplain.

Until August 15: Exhibition in the district hall showcases pioneering planning and construction

"The traveling exhibition for the Baden-Württemberg State Prize for Building Culture is a great opportunity to discover and develop new solutions for the building challenges of tomorrow together," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier. The spectrum of the exhibition is diverse and ranges from urban planning and urban development, infrastructure and engineering buildings to residential, mixed-use, commercial and industrial buildings. But educational buildings, community buildings and public spaces are also addressed. And finally, the focus will be on processes and initiatives.

From July 24 to August 15, 2024, there will be an opportunity to visit the exhibition on the Baden-Württemberg State Prize for Building Culture 2024 in the Ludwigsburg district office building. All award-winning projects are presented on 30 panels with explanatory texts,

excerpts from the jury assessment and images. Films can also be viewed using the QR codes shown. Introductory panels provide information about the selection process and the composition of the jury. A special highlight is the Infopoint, which shows video clips from the projects as well as brochures from the traveling exhibition.

Background

The State Prize for Building Culture has been awarded twice so far, in 2016 and 2020. It is a central element of the Baden-Württemberg State Initiative for Building Culture, which aims to strengthen and promote planning and building culture in the state. When the award was announced on May 15, 2023, the Ministry of State Development and Housing called for projects from all areas of planning and building that are exemplary and transferable in that they combine functional, design-aesthetic, technical-constructive, social, cultural, ecological, economic and procedural qualities in a particularly innovative and sustainable way. We are looking for projects that have been completed between January 1, 2019 and April 30, 2023.
