In his thanks, the district administrator emphasized that he appreciated the value of the history sheets, which are known far beyond the district. "Our district is steeped in history and it is important that this historical heritage is preserved," said the District Administrator, praising the association's activities. Every year, the association succeeds in awakening and deepening interest in local and regional history with its series of publications. The district will continue to support the publication of the history journals in the coming year and thus also the work of the association.
On the 240 pages of the latest volume of the Geschichtsblätter, edited by district archivist Dr. Thomas Schulz, eleven expert authors have once again examined interesting aspects of the history of the town and district. Frank Merkle goes the furthest back in time, presenting the conditions in the Bietigheim area in the Roman era in his essay. At the other end of the time scale is the article "Continuity and new beginnings", in which Florian Hoffmann deals with the prehistory of the incorporation of Schöckingen and Heimerdingen into the town of Ditzingen in 1971. Günther Bergan deals with a special topic of Ludwigsburg's city history in his essay "Be brief!", which traces the history of telephoning in Ludwigsburg. Reinhard Wolf's article has a district-wide focus, presenting examples of hollow ways and marl caves in the district of Ludwigsburg in words and pictures.
Christian Hofmann explores a dark chapter in local history in his article "Child euthanasia and the Ludwigsburg health department". He presents individual victims' fates from Ludwigsburg and uses them as examples to illustrate the cruel thoroughness with which the "bureaucracy of extermination under National Socialism" functioned. Thomas Schulz also takes up a topic from the Nazi era, examining the events surrounding the dismissal of Mayor Paul Eberle of Unterriexingen in 1933.
The other topics and authors: "Hohenasperg and Hohentwiel in the Thirty Years' War" (Eberhard Fritz), "Winzerhausen and its departed St. Nicholas Church" (Markus Pantle), "John F. Ballier. Aurich's contribution to the history of the USA" (Ann Marie Ackermann and Jürgen Macher), "The life journey of Helene Guttman. An example of mobility in the 20th century" (Simon Karzel) and a special rarity from Ludwigsburg porcelain (Hans Dieter Flach).
Volume 75 of the Ludwigsburger Geschichtsblätter is richly illustrated with 122 pictures and costs 18 euros. It is available in bookshops and in the customer center of the Ludwigsburger Kreiszeitung.
