"Immediate medical assistance after rape" service - handover to the health department

Responsibility for the "Immediate medical assistance after rape" service is changing hands within the Ludwigsburg District Office. Just in time for the end of the year, Equal Opportunities Officer Cynthia Schönau is passing the baton to the Head of the Health Promotion and Health Planning Department, Dr. Uschi Traub. From January 1, 2023, the lead project support will be permanently located in the health department of the district office.

The comprehensive care service "Immediate medical help after rape", based on the model project of the Frauenennotruf Frankfurt advice centre, was launched on 25 November 2021 at the RKH Klinikum Ludwigsburg for all people aged 14 and over who have experienced sexualized violence. At the request of those affected, the service includes legally compliant confidential evidence collection directly at the hospital. It is not necessary to report the incident or involve the police. The evidence collected is taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Heidelberg. It is available there for one year for adults and for minors up to the age of 19 for later reporting to the police. The specialist counselling centres for sexualized violence in Ludwigsburg involved in the project, Frauen für Frauen e.V. and Silberdistel e.V., offer those affected confidential counselling free of charge. The victims do not have to make a decision in the acute situation and can make a report later if they wish.

Cynthia Schönau was the initiator of this service in the district. The social committee and the district council unanimously approved this important low-threshold help for victims in emergency situations. Together with the RKH Klinikum Ludwigsburg, the district's health department and the two specialist advice centers Frauen für Frauen e.V. and Silberdistel e.V., Schönau has implemented the project in the district and has been in charge of it to date. The Prevention Department of the Ludwigsburg Police Headquarters has supported the project with its specialist expertise. With the RKH Klinikum Ludwigsburg, this service is currently available at four locations in Baden-Württemberg. Since the start of the project, eight people - women aged between 18 and 60 - have received medical treatment as part of the project. All of them have made use of the confidential forensic service at the same time.

For the first state official Jürgen Vogt, it is "a natural and important task to help people who are victims of rape in the best possible way".
