Topping-out ceremony for the new building of the Educational and Cultural Center

The topping-out ceremony for the new building of the Pädagogisch-Kulturelles Zentrum Ehemalige Synagoge Freudental e.V. (PKC) was celebrated on Thursday (September 12). Following the demolition of the existing building on the Strombergstraße 21 site, the shell of the timber construction is now complete. "The design of the new building makes it possible to offer an attractive range of activities for a wide variety of visitor groups," said District Administrator Dr. Rainer Haas at the topping-out ceremony. The new building is expected to be completed in the first half of 2020 after a twelve-month construction period.

A group of about 25 people, including men and women, stands in front of a partially constructed building surrounded by scaffolding. They appear to be celebrating or marking an event, with a clear blue sky in the background.

The topping-out ceremony for the new PKC building was held on Thursday.

The PKC extension fits in very harmoniously with the main building, said District Administrator Haas during the site inspection. "I am delighted that the district council unanimously approved the extension in 2018," said the head of the district administration and 2nd PKC Chairman. The modern planning in timber construction has already impressed him at the shell stage, Haas continued. "The extension will make the PKC fit for the future and enable it to better realize its learning opportunities for the various target groups," said District Administrator Haas. Until now, the PKC had reached its limits both in terms of learning opportunities and accommodation options, and double occupancy of groups was not possible due to the lack of a second seminar room.

On the first floor of the new building, there will be a seminar room with 34 square meters, which will be connected to the main building via an entrance. Two single rooms with separate sanitary facilities will be set up on the upper floor and in the attic. Including the basement, the total floor space will be 142 square meters. The total costs are estimated at around 680,000 euros, with the Wüstenrot Foundation supporting the project with 50,000 euros.
